Lola-Rose Avery is an experienced family law barrister.

Lola is also authorised by the Bar Standards Board to conduct litigation (usually reserved for solicitors and not permitted for barristers) and therefore can provide all the services of a family law solicitor, as well as a barrister.

Advice & Negotiation

Family law issues can be settled more quickly and painlessly when realistic and accurate advice is provided promptly; whether it is exactly the advice that was hoped for or something harder to hear, I will always be sincere and advise with my client’s best interests in mind.

As well as purely legal advice, I give helpful practical advice when appropriate because matters relating to children and families often have many important and sensitive considerations that are beyond the law/legal implications but still relevant.

I can advise on what is likely to be the most appropriate forum to resolve your issue: mediation, arbitration, court proceedings or an alternative. I am an experienced and skilled negotiator and I am often able to reach favourable agreements to settle without court intervention.

I understand that clients often come to me during one of the most difficult times of their life and I am always mindful of this, being compassionate and empathetic in my approach.

Court Representation & Advocacy

Wherever possible, I aim to resolve matters outside of court to save clients from the emotional toil and financial cost that family court proceedings can sometimes bring. However, if matters need to go to court, I am prepared to fight for my clients and have significant experience in providing representation at all stages of proceedings- from initial hearings to complex and multi-day fact find hearings and final hearings.

I attend hearings in the ‘traditional’ role as a barrister: being instructed by a solicitor.

I additionally accept instructions directly from members of the public via direct access (The Public Access Scheme).

Often when conducting litigation, I also conduct my own advocacy at the hearings, which means clients have the huge benefit of one lawyer for everything who knows their case front to back, rather than instructing a solicitor’s firm and a barrister’s chambers.

For many hearings, I am able to provide a fixed fee and will always provide a fixed fee under solicitor instruction.

I also provide representation for mediation and arbitration.

“Lola helped me navigate a long and tough case. There were a few times I wanted to give up but Lola was a steadfast support throughout and even managed to make me laugh a few times! She said things in court on my behalf much better than I would have been able to say them myself and eventually we got a fair result. I couldn’t imagine anyone else being my lawyer through this process and can’t recommend her enough.”
